Locations: LVS has an attractive portfolio of locations, including the very popular Venetian in Las Vegas-which includes an expo/convention center for the NUMEROUS corporate conventions that do and will continue to take place- as well as the Palazzo. Additionally, LVS has multiple resorts in Macao, where it holds one of only SIX casino licenses to serve the entire Chinese economy. Finally, LVS also operates Marina Bay Sands in Singapore-where they have one of only TWO casino licenses. In short, Sands is a leader in the US and Asian casino markets, both highly lucrative areas in the industry.
Asia: As the middle class in China continues to grow at a rapid rate, more consumers will vacation to Macao and Singapore and drive up revenues in the area post-pandemic. Sands’ casino license is good through May of 2022, so they will be able to serve this growing middle class for the next 15 months and, I believe, well beyond. If you are concerned about the expiration of the licenses, don’t be. MGM and SJM holdings both had licenses set to expire in 2020, but both were renewed until 2022 by the Chinese government. The gaming industry in Macao has some serious weight, being the city’s largest employer and accounting for 82% of government revenue to the city. The Chinese government would have very little interest in adjusting or revoking the licenses unless a company made an egregious misstep. A misstep by LVS is highly unlikely, as the market is very lucrative and doing anything to compromise access to that market would be nonsensical. Further, Sands' Singapore license is highly coveted given that the only other license belongs to Genting Group, a company based in Malaysia-LVS has no US competitors in Singapore, and no competitors that are listed on US stock exchanges, making them your best bet for the Asian casino market in the United States.
The balance sheet: As of December 31, 2020-nearly a year into the pandemic-LVS had a cash balance of $2.12 billion, which is quite healthy. While LVS does have outstanding debt of roughly $14 billion, this is not really of any concern, as net revenue amounted to just shy of $13.8 billion in 2019, a number I would expect to return-and even grow-after the pandemic. Additionally, capital expenditures for LVS amounted to only $252 million in 2020, giving some longevity to the balance sheet as revenues continue to recover slowly.
New CEO: Robert Goldstein has been with LVS since 1995, when The Venetian was in its planning phase. During this time, he was instrumental in attracting restauranteurs and retailers. He has served in a variety of leadership positions, including as COO of the company. Under Goldstein’s leadership, LVS achieved financial performance records and has been positioned a leader in regulatory compliance, an important note when considering the casino industry-especially in Asia, where noncompliance could get their highly coveted license revoked.
Nobody can say that it is easy to be in the hospitality industry during a global pandemic, but I believe that Las Vegas Sands has the market, the balance sheet, and the knowledge to weather this storm and grow in the aftermath.

I remember China and Vietnam went on with their "socialist idealism" and "revolutionary communist" things until both countries became among the world's poorest. In 1979 even Afghanistan was 50% richer than China and in 1986 the African state of Congo was twice as richer than Vietnam.
It was then Deng Xiaoping and Nguyễn Văn Linh said this gotta stop, we need to reform and try a more pragmatic economic approach. This led to the opening up of China in 1979 and Đổi Mới of Vietnam in 1986, paving way for rapid industrialization. Today China is the fastest growing economy in East Asia and Vietnam fastest-growing in Southeast Asia.
Even Lee Kuan Yew, when Stanley Ho, the Macau's "King of casino", proposed setting up a casino in Singapore back in 1970, Lee said, "not over my dead body". In 1994, with Singaporeans visiting Genting Highlands en masses, Lee still insisted no casino. But in 2005 he changed his mind and allowed casinos. He was there when Resorts World Sentosa was launched. He was there when Marina Bay Sands was launched.
Singapore becomes the third largest gambling hub in the world after Macau and Las Vegas. Casino now contributed to 1% of GDP. It does its parts in stemming Singaporeans bringing out money abroad (such as to Genting) for entertainment.
When asked, Lee said Singapore needs to take pragmatic approach: "Once upon a time, there was no Genting nor casinos in Batam. When I said 'no', Genting flourished, Batam flourished. Now, Singaporeans flock to casinos across the globe.
"Ask ourselves, everyone of us, if you are in charge, if you are responsible for Singapore's future, for its well-being, for its vibrancy, for the kind of life Singapore can provide its people in 10, 20 years, can you say no? That is the question you have to answer. The price (of having a casino) is high, but the price of not having one is now even higher."
We have Brunei insisting about its MIB ideologies, its Negara Zikir vision, even when Miri / KK flourish, even when the restrictions contribute to economic stagnation, even when it is lagging behind regionally, even with unemployment now highest in ASEAN. But Brunei persists. The question is, how long will it last? The USSR clinged on its ideology until it was too late. Venezuela's government still clinging on its ideology up till today. How long will Brunei continue before turning to pragmatism, which is something unavoidable eventually.

Here's a nasty unresolved one from Singapore, my home country: In 1985, Ayakanno Marimuthu was reported missing by his wife. She claimed her husband went to the Genting Highlands and disappeared (it's a casino resort in Malaysia). The police eventually detained eight suspects, one of whom said that Marimuthu was murdered, chopped up, and cooked in a curry. There were a few people who thought they might have eaten his body, so this caused a nationwide panic. Because of a lack of evidence, the suspects were let go, and to this day no one knows who did it. Apparently Marimuthu was abusive, so people theorize that the wife or her family were behind the killing. You can read the original newspaper articles here.

Malaysia's former Prime Minister Najib Razak is set to stand trial for his role in a financial scandal that has sent shockwaves around the world.
Mr Najib faces several criminal cases, but this is the first major trial in the scandal.
Mr Najib is facing 42 charges in total, mostly linked to 1MDB. The first of several trials begins on Wednesday, centring on the allegations that 42m Malaysian ringgit was transferred from SRC International, a unit of 1MDB, into Mr Najib's personal bank accounts.
